John's Take On Beatles Songs (from his Playboy interview)

In a 1980 Playboy interview with David Sheff months before his death, John spoke about his days with the Beatles, being a 'housewife', and baking bread among other things. Near the end of the interview, Sheff began to ask John about a number of Beatles songs. Here's John's take:

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
My son Julian came in one day with a picture he painted about a school friend of his named Lucy. He had sketched in some stars in the sky and called it "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," Simple. The images were from "Alice in Wonderland." It was Alice in the boat. She is buying an egg and it turns into Humpty Dumpty. The woman serving in the shop turns into a sheep and the next minute they are rowing in a rowing boat somewhere and I was visualizing that. There was also the image of the female who would someday come save me -- a "girl with kaleidoscope eyes" who would come out of the sky. It turned out to be Yoko, though I hadn't met Yoko yet. So maybe it should be "Yoko in the Sky with Diamonds."

In My Life
It was the first song I wrote that was consciously about my life. [Sings] "There are places I'll remember/all my life though some have changed. . . ." Before, we were just writing songs a la Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly -- pop songs with no more thought to them than that. The words were almost irrelevant. "In My Life" started out as a bus journey from my house at 250 Menlove Avenue to town, mentioning all the places I could recall. I wrote it all down and it was boring. So I forgot about it and laid back and these lyrics started coming to me about friends and lovers of the past. Paul helped with the middle eight.

Yesterday
Well, we all know about "Yesterday." I have had so much accolade for "Yesterday." That is Paul's song, of course, and Paul's baby. Well done. Beautiful -- and I never wished I had written it.

With A Little Help from My Friends
This is Paul, with a little help from me. "What do you see when you turn out the light/I can't tell you, but I know it's mine ..." is mine.

I Am The Walrus
The first line was written on one acid trip one weekend. The second line was written on the next acid trip the next weekend, and it was filled in after I met Yoko. Part of it was putting down Hare Krishna. All these people were going on about Hare Krishna, Allen Ginsberg in particular. The reference to "Element'ry penguin" is the elementary, naive attitude of going around chanting, "Hare Krishna," or putting all your faith in any one idol. I was writing obscurely, a la Dylan, in those days. It actually was fantastic in stereo, but you never hear it all. There was too much to get on. It was too messy a mix. One track was live BBC Radio - Shakespeare or something - I just fed in whatever lines came in. (The Walrus itself)'s from "The Walrus and the Carpenter." "Alice in Wonderland." To me, it was a beautiful poem. It never dawned on me that Lewis Carroll was commenting on the capitalist and social system. I never went into that bit about what he really meant, like people are doing with the Beatles' work. Later, I went back and looked at it and realized that the walrus was the bad guy in the story and the carpenter was the good guy. I thought, Oh, sh-t, I picked the wrong guy. I should have said, "I am the carpenter." But that wouldn't have been the same, would it? [Singing] "I am the carpenter...."

She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
That was written by Paul when we were in New York forming Apple, and he first met Linda. Maybe she's the one who came in the window. She must have. I don't know. Somebody came in the window.

I Feel Fine
That's me, including the guitar lick with the first feedback ever recorded. I defy anybody to find an earlier record - unless it is some old blues record from the Twenties -- with feedback on it.

When I'm Sixty-Four
Paul completely. I would never even dream of writing a song like that. There are some areas I never think about and that is one of them.

A Day in the Life
Just as it sounds: I was reading the paper one day and I noticed two stories. One was the Guinness heir who killed himself in a car. That was the main headline story. He died in London in a car crash. On the next page was a story about 4000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire. In the streets, that is. They were going to fill them all. Paul's contribution was the beautiful little lick in the song "I'd love to turn you on." I had the bulk of the song and the words, but he contributed this little lick floating around in his head that he couldn't use for anything. I thought it was a damn good piece of work.

I Wanna Be Your Man
Paul and I finished that one off for the Stones. We were taken down by Brian (Epstein) to meet them at the club where they were playing in Richmond. They wanted a song and we went to see what kind of stuff they did. Paul had this bit of a song and we played it roughly for them and they said, "Yeah, OK, that's our style." But it was only really a lick, so Paul and I went off in the corner of the room and finished the song off while they were all sitting there, talking. We came back and Mick and Keith said, "Jesus, look at that. They just went over there and wrote it." You know, right in front of their eyes. We gave it to them. It was a throwaway. Ringo sang it for us and the Stones did their version. It shows how much importance we put on them. We weren't going to give them anything great, right? That was the Stones' first record. Anyway, Mick and Keith said, "If they can write a song so easily, we should try it." They say it inspired them to start writing together.

Strawberry Fields Forever
Strawberry Fields is a real place. After I stopped living at Penny Lane, I moved in with my auntie who lived in the suburbs in a nice semidetached place with a small garden and doctors and lawyers and that ilk living around - - not the poor slummy kind of image that was projected in all the Beatles stories. In the class system, it was about half a class higher than Paul, George and Ringo, who lived in government-subsidized housing. We owned our house and had a garden. They didn't have anything like that. Near that home was Strawberry Fields, a house near a boys' reformatory where I used to go to garden parties as a kid with my friends Nigel and Pete. We would go there and hang out and sell lemonade bottles for a penny. We always had fun at Strawberry Fields. So that's where I got the name. But I used it as an image. Strawberry Fields forever. [Singing] "(Living is easy) With eyes closed. Misunderstanding all you see." It still goes, doesn't it? Aren't I saying exactly the same thing now? The awareness apparently trying to be expressed is -- let's say in one way I was always hip. I was hip in kindergarten. I was different from the others. I was different all my life. The second verse goes, "No one I think is in my tree." Well, I was too shy and self-doubting. Nobody seems to be as hip as me is what I was saying. Therefore, I must be crazy or a genius -- "I mean it must be high or low," the next line. There was something wrong with me, I thought, because I seemed to see things other people didn't see. I thought I was crazy or an egomaniac for claiming to see things other people didn't see. As a child, I would say, "But this is going on!" and everybody would look at me as if I was crazy. I always was so psychic or intuitive or poetic or whatever you want to call it, that I was always seeing things in a hallucinatory way. It was scary as a child, because there was nobody to relate to. Neither my auntie nor my friends nor anybody could ever see what I did. It was very, very scary and the only contact I had was reading about an Oscar Wilde or a Dylan Thomas or a Vincent van Gogh -- all those books that my auntie had that talked about their suffering because of their visions. Because of what they saw, they were tortured by society for trying to express what they were. I saw loneliness.

Help!
When "Help!" came out in '65, I was actually crying out for help. Most people think it's just a fast rock-'n'-roll song. I didn't realize it at the time; I just wrote the song because I was commissioned to write it for the movie. But later, I knew I really was crying out for help. It was my fat Elvis period. You see the movie: He - I - is very fat, very insecure, and he's completely lost himself. And I am singing about when I was so much younger and all the rest, looking back at how easy it was. Now I may be very positive - yes, yes - but I also go through deep depressions where I would like to jump out the window, you know. It becomes easier to deal with as I get older; I don't know whether you learn control or, when you grow up, you calm down a little. Anyway, I was fat and depressed and I was crying out for help. In those days, when the Beatles were depressed, we had this little chant. I would yell out, "Where are we going, fellows?" They would say, "To the top, Johnny," in pseudo-American voices. And I would say, "Where is that, fellows?" And they would say, "To the toppermost of the poppermost." It was some dumb expression from a cheap movie - a la "Blackboard Jungle" - about Liverpool. Johnny was the leader of the gang. The Beatles thing had just gone beyond comprehension. We were smoking marijuana for breakfast. We were well into marijuana and nobody could communicate with us, because we were just all glazed eyes, giggling all the time. In our own world. That was the song, "Help!." I think everything that comes out of a song -- even Paul's songs now, which are apparently about nothing - shows something about yourself.

I'm A Loser
Part of me suspects that I'm a loser and the other part of me thinks I'm God Almighty.

Hey Jude
He said it was written about Julian. He knew I was splitting with Cyn and leaving Julian then. He was driving to see Julian to say hello. He had been like an uncle. And he came up with "Hey Jude." But I always heard it as a song to me. Now I'm sounding like one of those fans reading things into it...Think about it: Yoko had just come into the picture. He is saying. "Hey, Jude" - "Hey, John." Subconsciously, he was saying, Go ahead, leave me. On a conscious level, he didn't want me to go ahead. The angel in him was saying. "Bless you." The Devil in him didn't like it at all, because he didn't want to lose his partner.

Because
I was lying on the sofa in our house, listening to Yoko play Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano. Suddenly, I said, "Can you play those chords backward?" She did, and I wrote "Because" around them. The song sounds like "Moonlight Sonata," too. The lyrics are clear, no bullsh-t, no imagery, no obscure references.

Do You Want To Know A Secret
The idea came from this thing my mother used to sing to me when I was one or two years old, when she was still living with me. It was from a Disney movie: "Do you want to know a secret? Promise not to tell/You are standing by a wishing well." So, with that in my head, I wrote the song and just gave it to George to sing. I thought it would be a good vehicle for him, because it had only three notes and he wasn't the best singer in the world. He has improved a lot since then; but in those days, his ability was very poor. I gave it to him just to give him a piece of the action. That's another reason why I was hurt by his book. I even went to the trouble of making sure he got the B side of a Beatles single, because he hadn't had a B side of one until "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" "Something" was the first time he ever got an A side, because Paul and I always wrote both sides. That wasn't because we were keeping him out but simply because his material was not up to scratch. I made sure he got the B side of "Something," too, so he got the cash. Those little things he doesn't remember. I always felt bad that George and Ringo didn't get a piece of the publishing. When the opportunity came to give them five percent each of Maclen, it was because of me they got it. It was not because of Klein and not because of Paul but because of me. When I said they should get it, Paul couldn't say no. I don't get a piece of any of George's songs or Ringo's. I never asked for anything for the contributions I made to George's songs like "Taxman." Not even the recognition. And that is why I might have sounded resentful about George and Ringo, because it was after all those things that the attitude of "John has forsaken us" and "John is tricking us" came out -- which is not true.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun
No, it's not about heroin. A gun magazine was sitting there with a smoking gun on the cover and an article that I never read inside called "Happiness Is a Warm Gun." I took it right from there. I took it as the terrible idea of just having shot some animal...it was at the beginning of my relationship with Yoko and I was very sexually oriented then. When we weren't in the studio, we were in bed...I call Yoko Mother or Madam just in an offhand way. The rest doesn't mean anything. It's just images of her.

Across the Universe
The Beatles didn't make a good record of "Across the Universe." I think subconsciously we - I thought Paul subconsciously tried to destroy my great songs. We would play experimental games with my great pieces, like "Strawberry Fields," which I always felt was badly recorded. It worked, but it wasn't what it could have been. I allowed it, though. We would spend hours doing little, detailed cleaning up on Paul's songs, but when it came to mine - especially a great song like "Strawberry Fields" or "Across the Universe" - somehow an atmosphere of looseness and experimentation would come up. Subconscious sabotage. I was too hurt...Paul will deny it, because he has a bland face and will say this doesn't exist. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about where I was always seeing what was going on and began to think, Well, maybe I'm paranoid. But it is not paranoid. It is the absolute truth. The same thing happened to "Across the Universe." The song was never done properly. The words stand, luckily.

Getting Better
It is a diary form of writing. All that "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved" was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically - any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. That is why I am always on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace. Everything's the opposite. But I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am not violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face in public how I treated women as a youngster.

Revolution
We recorded the song twice. The Beatles were getting really tense with one another. I did the slow version and I wanted it out as a single: as a statement of the Beatles' position on Vietnam and the Beatles' position on revolution. For years, on the Beatle tours, Epstein had stopped us from saying anything about Vietnam or the war. And he wouldn't allow questions about it. But on one tour, I said, "I am going to answer about the war. We can't ignore it." I absolutely wanted the Beatles to say something. The first take of "Revolution" -- well, George and Paul were resentful and said it wasn't fast enough. Now, if you go into details of what a hit record is and isn't maybe. But the Beatles could have afforded to put out the slow, understandable version of "Revolution" as a single. Whether it was a gold record or a wooden record. But because they were so upset about the Yoko period and the fact that I was again becoming as creative and dominating as I had been in the early days, after lying fallow for a couple of years, it upset the apple cart. I was awake again and they couldn't stand it? (Yoko) inspired all this creation in me. It wasn't that she inspired the songs; she inspired me. The statement in "Revolution" was mine. The lyrics stand today. It's still my feeling about politics. I want to see the plan. That is what I used to say to Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. Count me out if it is for violence. Don't expect me to be on the barricades unless it is with flowers.

I'll try to learn how to take photos, just while ago (that was christmast 2006, but I still say a while ago) I took the first step. Hmm. But I went to the wrong direction, so I had to turn around and now I'm at the start again. Hmm. I could go left or right, damn it. I'll just stay here for a while, maybe I'll meet someone here. Oh hello there.

I wear my watch on the wrong hand. It's 4-7 minutes ahead so I won't be late.

If I eat too many strawberries I'll get a fever. How sad is that.

Oh and I don't like borders.

I was born in 1983 and since that I've been mostly thinking.

Oh and I'm not too keen having big blinking images on the comments, if they dissappear don't be offended, I just don't like them, oh l I'm fed up I've had enough of them really. I try aim quality not quantity (at the moment there's no quality nor quantity) all the time so there aren't many photos and some of the older ones might be dropping away from the stream.

Tried to make a private set on March 2009, the end result was that I lost couple hundred favourites on about 20 pictures. So if you are wondering why my pictures dissappeared from your favourites... It wasn't my fault, well it was but I didn't mean to. Sorry

"Audrey"

Hello, dear all

Today our exhibition has new great slideshow from Jessica again. The elegant beauty of Audrey Hepburn. Thanks from my heart, Jessica.

Audrey Hepburn was born on May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. She really was blue-blood from the beginning with her father, a wealthy English banker, and her mother, a Dutch baroness. After her parents divorced, Audrey went to London with her mother where she went to a private girls school. Later, when her mother moved back to the Netherlands, she attended private schools as well. While vacationing with her mother in Arnhem, Holland, Hitler's army took over the town. It was here that she fell on hard times during the Nazi occupation. Audrey suffered from depression and malnutrition. After the liberation, Audrey went to a ballet school in London on a scholarship and later began a modeling career. As a model, she was graceful and, it seemed, she had found her niche in life - until the film producers came calling. After being spotted modeling by a producer, she was signed to a bit part in the European film Nederlands in 7 lessen (1948) in 1948. Later, she had a speaking role in the 1951 film, Young Wives' Tale (1951) as Eve Lester. The part still wasn't much, so she headed to America to try her luck there. Audrey gained immediate prominence in the US with her role in Roman Holiday (1953) in 1953. This film turned out to be a smashing success as she won an Oscar as Best Actress. This gained her enormous popularity and more plum roles. One of the reasons for her popularity was the fact that she was so elf-like and had class, unlike the sex-goddesses of the time. Roman Holiday (1953) was followed by another similarly wonderful performance in the 1957 classic Funny Face (1957). Sabrina (1954), in 1954, for which she received another Academy nomination, and Love in the Afternoon (1957), in 1957, also garnered rave reviews. In 1959, she received yet another nomination for her role in The Nun's Story (1959). Audrey reached the pinnacle of her career when she played Holly Golightly in the delightful film Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) in 1961. For this she received another nomination. She scored commercial success again in the espionage caper Charade (1963). One of Audrey's most radiant roles was in the fine production of My Fair Lady (1964) in 1964. Her co-star, Rex Harrison, once was asked to identify his favorite leading lady. Without hesitation, he replied, "Audrey Hepburn in 'My Fair Lady.'" After a couple of other movies, most notably Two for the Road (1967), she hit pay dirt and another nomination in 1967's Wait Until Dark (1967). By the end of the sixties, after her divorce from actor Mel Ferrer, Audrey decided to retire while she was on top. Later she married Dr. Andrea Dotti. From time to time, she would appear on the silver screen. One film of note was Robin and Marian (1976), with Sean Connery in 1976. In 1988, Audrey became a special ambassador to the United Nations UNICEF fund helping children in Latin America and Africa, a position she retained until 1993. She was named to People's magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world. Her last film was Always (1989) in 1989. Audrey Hepburn died on January 20, 1993 in Tolochnaz, Switzerland, from colon cancer. She had made a total of 31 high quality movies. Her elegance and style will always be remembered in film history as evidenced by her being named in Empire magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time."

With today an additional holiday, the long Songkran break will be extended to six days.Abhisit flew back from Pattaya for the national television address.He announced the government would start strictly enforcing the law against any troublemakers among the protesters.The prime minister said the number of protesters yesterday had dropped 70 per cent from an estimated 100,000 on the first day of the rally on Wednesday. That was possibly due, he said, to many people having decided the protest was intended to become violent."The government is aware that the remaining protesters want to incite confrontation and violence with the aim of causing a riot," he said.He also ruled out protesters' demands for him to resign or dissolve the House of Representatives.

The prime minister insisted his government was working for the national interest, not personal benefit."I will never place my personal interest above the country's benefit," he said.Meanwhile, the red shirts wreaked havoc with Bangkok's traffic when they blocked a number of major thoroughfares in the city, including Victory Monument.

ASEAN SUMMITS TARGETEDProtest leaders asked for the red shirts to gather in Pattaya today at the start of the Asean summits with dialogue partner countries. Pompeii

Pompeii is a ruined and partially buried Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Along with Herculaneum, its sister city, Pompeii was destroyed, and completely buried, during a long catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius spanning two days in AD 79.

The volcano collapsed higher roof-lines and buried Pompeii under 60 feet of ash and pumice, and it was lost for nearly 1700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, its excavation has provided an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city at the height of the Roman Empire. Today, it is both one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy, with 2,571,725 visitors in 2007,and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 6 Megapixel Nikon D40 is targeted for those who want a relatively compact and light camera yet having most of the important SLR features. The D40 is priced reasonably (cheaper than D50/D80 and Canon Rebel XTi). In my opinion, if you are still considering whether to get a point and shoot camera or a DSLR, the D40 will be a better choice than any point and shoot camera, by far, even those with 8MP or 10MP. But if you are already deciding to get a DSLR or you want more control of the picture taking experience, then I would recommend you to also test the D50 and/or D80 first before deciding to buy the D40. I want you to make sure that you know what you will get (and not get) with the D40. Don't get me wrong though, the D40 is an awesome camera, and I don't think you will regret buying one. There are some limitation with the D40 which shouldn't bother most people, for example, the D40 doesn't have dedicated button to change picture quality, white balance or ISO settings (which generally only professional/enthusiast will care). Once you understand (and accept) its limitation, the D40 is a potent and exciting photography machine. Just like all its (DSLR) siblings, the D40 powers on instantly and take pictures with almost no shutter lag which are the major advantages of a DSLR over a point and shoot camera. In addition to the P,S,A,M mode, the picture quality of the auto settings (auto, child mode, landscape etc) are also very good. With 2.5 frames per second you can capture movement progress in sports like football, basketball, baseball etc. Also great to photograph your family or child (child mode). The D40 is a great all around camera.

Mosaic Classic

In the field of photographic imaging, a photographic mosaic (also known under the term Photomosaic, a portmanteau of photo and mosaic, trademarked by Runaway Technology, Inc.) is a picture (usually a photograph) that has been divided into (usually equal sized) rectangular sections, each of which is replaced with another photograph of appropriate average color. When viewed at low magnifications, the individual pixels appear as the primary image, while close examination reveals that the image is in fact made up of many hundreds or thousands of smaller images. They are a computer-created type of montage.

Originally, the term photomosaic referred to compound photographs created by stitching together a series of adjacent pictures of a scene. Space scientists have been assembling mosaics of this kind since at least as early as the Soviet Union space satellite missions to the moon in the late 1950s .

"I've developed my passion for creating images since i was i child when i used to draw, with pens and pencils, the things that surronded me or was i saw in pictures books or comics books. I discovered later by self-taught photography and graphics.

The studies in civil engineering and the advent of personal computers have approached me to the computer-generated images like fractals, or 3D modeling. In those years, during the first trips, I have gained attraction for the photo landscape (urban or natural).

Lately I'm developing and deepening the study of Photomosaics trying to give this kind of images my personal touch which departs me from the basic technique. Photomosaics attract me to their ability to generate wonder and awe in those who observe them.

Currently i teach informatics and CAD in a school, which also create a follow the develope of its images outside (web or print).
This assignment allowed me to further develop my skills in graphics and photography.

I live in a small village in northern Italy and, thanks to my windows on the Web, I quickly established interesting and unexpected relationship with reality very different from mine, last of which is committed to the Leo Burnett for a big photomosaic for their lobby in Chicago that I was honored to and that stimulatetd to give the best of me."

Liverpool FC The Kop Back On Top?

I'm one of the Kop for soooo long and to tell you the truth: I don't think they can beat Manchester United for the PL Champion . But I'm with them all of my heart anyway. This is one of the greatest seasons of Liverpool. They fight until the last of the last moments in almost every match.

Only time will tell how significant Yossi Benayoun's 92nd minute winner in this thrilling game will prove to be, but it had a certain air of history surrounding it.

Those of us lucky to be working in the media on a day like this tend to get a little carried away when this great game produces the ultimate drama and while few of us packing the press box for this game at Craven Cottage have allegiances to Liverpool, you can't help but feel there is an ominious tide flowing in their direction now.

This memorable match seemed to be destined to finish scoreless as injury time ticked by and Liverpool's attacks became more and more frantic, yet title chases always have significant moments that change the course inexorably and Benayoun's late winner had that sort of flavour to it.

The scenes of celebration among the players, staff and supporters of Liverpool as they finally breached the defences of the otherwise exceptional Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer suggested they felt their return to the top of the table was significant and it was hardly surprising to see skipper Steven Gerrard talk in bullish terms shortly after the final whistle.

"We are going to fight United all the way for this title and they will know it after this result," declared the jubilant captain, after another inspirational performance from a player who must now be the favourite to land the Premier League's Player of the Year award.

"That late goal could turn out to be massive for us and let's see if United are up for this now. It didn't look as if the breakthrough would come for us and I did fear it was going to be one of those days, but Yossi has popped up with the winner and we are right back in the race now."

"United are still favourites as they have the game in hand and it's up to them to beat Aston Villa on Sunday and make sure they don't give ourselves or Chelsea a chance."

Title pressure was not something Gerrard and Liverpool had to worry about until Manchester United threw the race wide open by going down to defeat here at Craven Cottage in the last round of Premier League fixtures, but they seemed ready to handle the additional responsibility with their skipper leading their charge.

Oozing with pace and passion, the Reds looked as if they would not make the same mistakes as United as they poured forward with burning desire from the off and only the man upstairs could explain how the score line remained untouched for an entire 45 minutes as Steve Bennett blew his whistle for half-time.

Liverpool hit the woodwork FOUR times before the break as irresistible forward play from the duo of Gerrard and Fernando Torres threatened to kill off Fulham in double quick time as the sun beat down on the Craven Cottage pitch.

Rafael Benitez has come under plenty of fire from this reporter and many more observers over the course of the last few seasons, but there can be little doubting his side's title credentials when they have their two main men fit and firing on all cylinders.

As Gerrard and Torres showed as they tore Manchester United apart at Old Trafford last month, these two have a magical ability to uncork any defence with their pace and sublime telepathy. Both as brilliant as each other, their build-up play for Torres' chance ten minutes before the break was a classic example of their brilliance.

Three simple passes between the duo sent Torres clear on goal and the only surprise was the brilliant Spaniard failed to convert with the just the keeper to beat. Only the woodwork denied Liverpool their opener and thus was the story of a crazy first half.

Martin Skrtel's 10th minute shot may have beaten inspired Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer, only for Andreas Dossena to divert it onto the crossbar and the Liverpool defender hit the same piece of woodwork again after Gerrard's fizzing cross.

Their misfortune was hard to believe as Xabi Alonso also struck the woodwork before the break as he showed sublime technique to crash a shot off the crossbar at the half, leaving the press room full of confused a bemused faces at the break.

At this point in the proceedings, the statistics confirmed Liverpool led the attempts at goal by a ten to zero, but the score line did not confirm their domination as the half-time whistle blew.

The flow of traffic towards the Fulham goal continued after the break as Schwarzer denied the ever-dangerous Torres, but Liverpool's concerns began to grow as the clock ticked past the hour mark and they had failed to break their duck.

Benitez's response was to throw Ryan Babel and Benayoun into the action, yet panic set in for Liverpool long before the dramatic finale. With the Liverpool boss looking increasingly dishevelled on the touchline, Benayoun wasted the next glorious chance as he failed to connect with Gerrard's cross and with each miss, it felt as if the title was slipping away from the Reds.

Desperate sides rarely play with the composure, but this was an occasion when Liverpool bucked that theory as Gerrard somehow managed to get the ball through to Benayoun and at that moment the title race was at his mercy.

With the imposing Schwarzer standing before him, the Israeli had so much to do and it needed a shot of rare quality to beat the big Aussie and burst into the far corner of the net. Even Benitez allowed himself to get carried away in the celebrations that followed and if Liverpool are to be crowned champions of England once again, this was the moment that changed the course of the season.

"It was a vital win and one we deserved," declared a calm Liverpool boss Benitez. "We hit the post four times, had lots more opportunities and played well, but you sometimes need some luck and we may have got this in the end. We still have a chance in the title race and that is all we could hope for today."

Some observers may hail Liverpool as Premier League favourites if United fail to beat Aston Villa on Sunday. Isn't this game a wonderful mix of the unexpected.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Mark Schwarzer
The Fulham cross bar could have been hailed as the man of the match as it saw most of the action in the first half, but this big Aussie also deserved credit for pulling off some fine saves.

FOOD WATCH: A fine mid-afternoon lunch in a Fulham pub solved this problem. On such a glorious London afternoon, it seemed rude to show up at the stadium too early.

QUAINT BUT ANNOYING: Fulham's Craven Cottage stadium revives memories of bygone days, but it is a little annoying to spend the match perched behind a pillar obscuring one of the goals. The Insider's army of 'fans' will doubtless be chuckling at this latest moan.

LIVERPOOL VERDICT: Make no mistake, Benitez's men are title challengers in every sense of the word. Only luck denied them a comfortable win at a ground where Manchester United lost a couple of weeks ago and, like true champions, they found a way to win in the end. Now it falls to United to show they have what it takes to withstand this Merseyside revival.

Vogue was founded as a bimonthly publication by Arthur Baldwin Turnure in 1892. When he died in 1909, Condé Nast picked it up and slowly began growing the publication. The magazine's number of subscriptions surged during the Depression, and again during World War II.

In the 1960s, with Diana Vreeland as editor-in-chief and personality, the magazine began to appeal to the youth of the sexual revolution by focusing more on contemporary fashion and editorial features openly discussing sexuality. Vogue also continued making household names out of models, a practice that continued with Suzy Parker, Twiggy, Penelope Tree, and others.

In 1973, Vogue became a monthly publication.[citation needed] Under editor-in-chief Grace Mirabella, the magazine underwent extensive editorial and stylistic changes to respond to changes in the lifestyles of its target audience.[citation needed]

The current editor-in-chief of American Vogue is Anna Wintour, noted for her trademark bob and her practice of wearing sunglasses indoors. Since taking over in 1988, Wintour has worked to protect the magazine's high status and reputation among fashion publications. In order to do so, she has made the magazine focus on new and more accessible ideas of "fashion" for a wider audience.[3] This allowed Wintour to keep a high circulation while discovering new trends that a broader audience could conceivably afford. For example, the inaugural cover of the magazine under Wintour's editorship featured a three-quarter-length photograph of a model wearing a bejeweled Christian Lacroix jacket and a pair of jeans, departing from her predecessors' tendency to portray a woman’s face alone, which, according to the Times', gave "greater importance to both her clothing and her body. This image also promoted a new form of chic by combining jeans with haute couture. Wintour’s debut cover brokered a class-mass rapprochement that informs modern fashion to this day."Wintour's Vogue also welcomes new and young talent.

Wintour's presence at fashion shows is often taken[by whom?] as an indicator of the designer's profile within the industry. In 2003, she joined the Council of Fashion Designers of America in creating a fund that provides money and guidance to at least two emerging designers each year. This has built loyalty among the emerging new star designers, and helped preserve the magazine's dominant position of influence through what Time called her own "considerable influence over American fashion. Runway shows don't start until she arrives. Designers succeed because she anoints them. Trends are created or crippled on her command."

God is a deity in theistic and deistic religions and other belief systems, representing either the sole deity in monotheism, or a principal deity in polytheism.

God is most often conceived of as the supernatural creator and overseer of the universe. Theologians have ascribed a variety of attributes to the many different conceptions of God. The most common among these include omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, omnibenevolence (perfect goodness), divine simplicity, and eternal and necessary existence. God has also been conceived as being incorporeal, a personal being, the source of all moral obligation, and the "greatest conceivable existent".These attributes were all supported to varying degrees by the early Jewish, Christian and Muslim theologian philosophers, including Maimonides, Augustine of Hippo, and Al-Ghazali, respectively. Many notable medieval philosophers developed arguments for the existence of God attempting to wrestle with the apparent contradictions implied by many of these attributes.

"I always have loved photography. I volunteer to take family pics n stuff all the time. I never bought a camera, however, since I figured I'm too lazy too develop it and too expensive to experiment.

Years later... wahla! came the digital camera age. I started with my Canon Digital Rebel (before the xt) and fell inlove with it (it only took me a year to decide!) . I always bring it wherever I go even if I'm not planning to shoot. It's a little gadget that I can carry with me to satisfy my cravings for electronics/gadgets and creativity.

Later on I had to sell my rebel since my cousin was so inspired and he wanted to buy it off me so bad. So there.. my next camera became the d70. I personally think the nikons are noisier than canons--however, since I like to "push buttons" I started to love the ergonomics the overall quality of the nikons. I recently got a d200 for my "graduation gift" lol.

I want to make friends here, and learn from the experts. So if i have pics that you have some comments or suggestions... PLEASE!!! say something! :) Compliments are good but constructive criticisms are better.

UFO!

Unidentified flying object (commonly abbreviated as UFO) is the popular term for any aerial phenomenon whose cause cannot be easily or immediately determined.Both military and civilian research show that a significant majority of UFO sightings are identified after further investigation, either explicitly or indirectly through the presence of clear and simple explanatory factors (see Occam's Razor). The United States Air Force, who coined the term in 1952, initially defined UFOs as those objects which remain unidentified after scrutiny by expert investigators, though the term UFO is often used more generally to describe any sighting unidentifiable to the reporting observer(s). Popular culture frequently takes the term UFO as a synonym for alien spacecraft. Some investigators now prefer to use the broader term Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (or UAP), to avoid the confusion and speculative associations that have become attached to UFO.

Studies have established that only a small percentage of reported UFOs are actual hoaxes,[5] while the majority are observations of some real but conventional object - most commonly aircraft, balloons, or astronomical objects such as meteors or bright planets - which have been misidentified by the observer as anomalies. Smoke Abstract

FROM THE CREATOR 'Pentaxpics 2009': This is a series that I have started with shapes created from real smoke.My PP abilities are still limited so some of the images are crudely edited. Although I didn't have to postprocess it much but the little parts that I had to remove they need a bit more refinemen.I am hoping with time to improve those skills and perfect the pp process.Hope you all enjoy viewing as much as I have enjoyed creating them.It certainly is addictive and often I have been locking myself in the studio room creating smoke :)
